Hello and welcome back to Veggie Affair, a blog where I enlighten you with some of my favourite places to eat as a vegetarian in Glasgow. This week I will be discussing Soul Food Kitchen, a restaurant which is 100% vegan and prides themselves in food which is nutritionally balanced, healthy and delicious (and it most certainly is). As a company they hope to increase overall wellbeing within the community by providing great tasting plant-based food and also by holding workshops and events to help educate people.
Soul Food Kitchen is located on Sauchiehall street on the west-end side, which I love as it gives me an excuse to venture into the west-end. It is within walking distance of both kelvinhall subway stop and the train station at the exhibition centre, or equally you can walk the whole way. However, my most recent visit was on a day of torrential rain, so I most certainly didn’t walk.
During my most recent visit I ordered the ‘Mac Soul burger’ which is a smokey patty topped with burger sauce, "cheese", spinach, gherkins, sliced beef tomato in a brioche bun served with a side of slaw and chunky potato wedges. My friend and I also ordered a ‘Mac and Greens’ to share, which is a vegan take on mac and cheese with spinach, leeks, peas and other fabulous vegetables all mixed into a creamy cheesy sauce, served with garlic bread. The menu is attached at the bottom for those interested in some of their other delicious options.
Both of the meals I ordered were absolutely incredible, they both tasted so healthy and full of great flavours. The Mac and Greens especially took me by surprise as I’m not a huge vegan cheese fan, but this was absolutely delicious. It was very creamy and completely different from any other take on a vegan mac and cheese I’ve ever tried. It was hands down the best vegan mac and cheese I have ever had! We were so full from the burgers we ended up taking the majority of the Mac and Greens home and ate it for dinner (and it was just as good re-heated!)
I didn’t even get a chance to try their raw cakes, which looked exceptional but that will be a job for my next visit, (I imagine they will taste as good as they looked!)
The meal came to roughly £55 pounds between the three of us, we all had a burger, drinks and then the macaroni to share. Working out to about £18 each which is definitely not the cheapest but pretty standard in terms of prices for vegan burgers around Glasgow, and we also ordered a whole extra meal (oops, but we couldn’t resist). It is definitely worth the money and the food absolutely lives up to its name (good for the soul)!

Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to this place, the food is exceptional, tasty and healthy (what more could you want). I hope to make a visit to one of their events too, so I can learn how they make some of the great things they serve!
Thank you for reading again! I hope you are enjoying reading these as much as I am writing them.
Next up: my fifth and final blog post: BAKED pizza al taglio, authentic roman style pizza served by the slice (my absolute go to place for pizza). I might have saved the best for last!
Looks sooo good!!
